About the Biome Evangelist
I am a Biome Evangelist, Dr. Debbie Stango, who helps people repair their gut so they can calm systemic inflammation and change the trajectory of issues like hormonal chaos in menopause, neurological symptoms, and chronic, unexplained problems that don’t respond to quick fixes. My work is grounded in the science of the gut–immune–brain–hormone axis, where disturbances in the microbiome can ripple outward into mood, cognition, metabolism, hot flashes, sleep, and long‑term healthspan.
What I actually do
Most of my clients don’t come to me because they think they have a “gut problem.” They come because they are exhausted, foggy, inflamed, moody, or struggling through menopause and they sense there has to be a deeper root cause. I use lab‑informed assessment, targeted nutrition, lifestyle changes, and microbiome‑focused strategies to identify and correct gut dysbiosis, increased intestinal permeability, and immune activation that can silently drive hormonal, neurological, and metabolic symptoms.
The science behind my approach
Research links imbalances in gut bacteria and a disrupted gut barrier to chronic low‑grade inflammation, altered hormone metabolism, and changes in how the nervous system functions. The gut microbiota helps regulate estrogen recycling, metabolic signaling, and inflammatory tone, all of which are crucial during perimenopause and menopause, when hormone levels and tissue sensitivity are shifting.
At the same time, the gut–brain axis—a bidirectional communication network between the gut and the central nervous system—has been implicated in mood changes, cognitive symptoms, and other neurological complaints. Dysbiosis and barrier disruption can alter neurotransmitter production, immune signaling, and brain inflammation, providing a plausible biological pathway from gut disturbances to symptoms like brain fog, anxiety, sleep disruption, and changes in focus or memory.
Why I care about your gut when you’re thinking about menopause and longevity
If you are navigating menopause, worried about your long‑term vitality, or noticing more neurological and metabolic “glitches” with age, your gut is often involved long before these symptoms fully show up.[1][4] Shifts in microbiome composition and function can influence how you metabolize hormones, regulate weight, handle stress, and maintain cognitive clarity—core pieces of both a smoother menopause transition and a longer, healthier life.
Longivity is not just about adding years; it’s about extending the number of years you stay strong, clear‑headed, and engaged with life. The gut microbiome is emerging as one of the key levers for healthy aging, affecting inflammation, metabolic health, immune resilience, and brain function—all critical to healthspan.
How I work with you
I listen closely to your story—from early life health, antibiotics, and diet to how you are currently sleeping, eating, and moving—so we can map how your gut may have set the stage for your current symptoms.
When appropriate, I use or interpret labs related to gut health, inflammation, hormones, and metabolic status, and translate them into clear, evidence‑informed steps.
We co‑create a plan that targets the microbiome and gut barrier—through food, prebiotics and probiotics when appropriate, lifestyle shifts, and, when needed, coordination with your medical team—aimed at easing menopausal symptoms, supporting neurological health, and improving long‑term vitality.
I teach you how the gut connects to your brain, hormones, and aging process so you understand why we’re doing what we’re doing and can stay in control of your health decisions.
My core belief
I believe that for many people facing menopausal challenges, neurological symptoms, and concerns about aging well, the gut is not a side issue—it is the central leverage point. When we respect the microbiome, repair the gut barrier, and quiet the immune storm at its source, we create conditions where hormones can rebalance, the brain can function more clearly, and long‑term health can be meaningfully extended. As a Biome Evangelist, my focus is simple: restore your gut ecosystem so the rest of your body has a real chance not just to survive, but to thrive over time.
